Kindness

Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

It's not always easy to be kind, is it? After standing in a long line at the store, sitting in traffic, being spoken to rudely by a stranger, etc. Our patience can be tested. It's so easy to snap at a rude salesperson instead of remaining calm and responding politely. My Grandma used to tell me you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. How true that is! In my own life I have tried hard to keep my anger in check but find myself giving into rudeness from time to time. It can be difficult but if we remind ourselves that we want to be treated with kindness we need to give it out. There are still people who are unkind to us even when we have been kind to them. That's ok, what is important is how you behave and act. As long as you try to remain God pleasing in your words and actions that is what is important. You might even find that if you reply with a soft comeback the person who was unkind to you may suddenly change their tone. It often causes them to pause and take a look at their own behavior. Pray that the Lord will bless you with kindness even towards those with whom it may be difficult.
