For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of the light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. Ephesians 5:8-9
To be alone in the dark can be a terrifying experience. I've been in the dark and have seen many unspeakable things. I believe the Lord uses the analogy of the dark because he knows how lonely and frightening it is. Picture yourself in a locked, dark room by yourself. Now imagine a window appears and the sun appears in the room and it's brightly lit. What a relief and calm washes over you. You feel safe again. To be in the dark in our lives or faith is to not know Jesus and the gift he gives us of eternal life. To be utterly lost, alone is miserable. To be in the light is to know Jesus and his love. To feel safe, certain and have hope. You see, if you're in the darkness there isn't any hope. The light of Jesus shines on those who believe in Him and want to live a Godly life. That light carries over into all aspects of our life. People see that light and they desire it. Remember the Sunday school song "This little light of mine,I'm gonna let it shine?" Jesus wants His light to shine in your life and for your light to shine in those who don't yet have Jesus in their hearts. Get out of the dark and explore God's loving light!
